Eating Healthy over the Holidays

If you're willing to make the jump, I posted on my blog at the Pitt News about eating healthy over the holidays.

Have a healthy Thanksgiving everyone!

  1. The pitt news blog is so much less fun and colorful :(

But, that was an exceptional post. You are really starting to sound like an authority. (I think Joel might have already mentioned that in class.)

The fact about the extra 600 calories a day between now and new year's shocked me into actually paying attention this holiday season. Crab cakes and green bean casseroles are holiday staples in my family, but to be honest I would much rather be eating shrimp! I'm going to suggest it at least.

  2. We're actually in the midst of establishing our own blog sites at the Pitt News. It's going to look a little more sophisticated than this, but it will be more colorful than the current way it's viewed on the Pitt News.

I've read different numbers about how much the total calories of the averave Thanksgiving are, but they ranged from 3,000 to 4,500 calories. And that's for one meal alone. I definitely suggest eating a light breakfast and lunch when the day comes.

  3. Not that I'm seriously watching the pounds (i'll share my secrets if you ask), but I was glad to see that pumpkin pie was a healthier option. i'm sure you would have to use some lite whipped cream, or forget it completely, in order to maintain the weight-conscious efforts.

  4. I always like secrets, Lukas! Oh and I found a whipped cream substitute! It's called TruWhip(http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/blogs/fresh-fit/2009/11/23/truwhip-to-help-satisfy-all-your-picky-eaters-this-thanksgiving/):
"Unlike most frozen or canned whipped creams TruWhip is free of trans fats, hydrogenated oil and high fructose corn syrup, but is still low in fat and comes in an easy to grab and serve frozen tub like the stuff you’re probably used to. One serving (that’s 2 tablespoons) contains 30 calories and 2 grams of fat."
